Ace's Friends!

Ace has more friends than we can handle! I know he and I both will appreciate it later on in life when I don't have to spend an hour packing him up just to get out of the house and I can just say 'hey! get on your bike and ride to the Shaw's'! Last Thursday, we were able to meet Ace's newest friend Troy. Troy's daddy and I used to work together at Village East a few years ago and have kept in touch and celebrated each other's wedding days together, changes in life, and now our sons. Ace is the smallest baby I've seen thus far... until Thursday! Usually when Val and I get Ace and Ryde together, Ryde is the big 'on time' baby, and Ace is the small 'I'm early' kiddo ha ha! These days, however, Ace seems to be catching up quite well. PJ (Ace's other friend) and he are the same size (well, were). So when we laid Ace next to Troy, it was amazing to see what two months can do! So many people say to cherish what you have and they've warned me how fast it goes by. I haven't even returned to work yet and I already feel like I've missed so much in Ace's life... BUT I'M HERE ALL THE TIME!
Ace also has other friends, Makai, Elizabeth, Madison, Addison, Paul, Canyon, Ben and the Shaw gentlemen. This kid has more friends than I do or could shake a stick at! It's crazy how you go from one social life to the other so quickly. We love it and I know Ace will later on too!

The end of an era...

Friday was the end of an era for Matt Trewin. It was his last day working as a manager at Baker Street DTC. Matt has been there since it open it's doors 5 years ago! He has been transferred to the Baker Street in Westminster. It will be a further drive, but he will be better off and hopefully his blood pressure will get under control with the minimal amount of stress he will endure up there. It was really hard for him to say goodbye to his employees because he is the last original manager left, but we know we will get together with them often. They were really sweet and gave him a nice going away card and a Cubs cake, which was delicious! Goodbye Baker Street DTC, it's been fun! On to more adventures! We celebrated with a few friends while Ace stayed with uncle Cody & aunt Meaghan. Cody seems to to think he never wants to have kids after the night he had with Ace ha ha!
We got Ace's birth announcements finally and those are on there way out to everyone! They came out so cute!
Anyway Saturday we were invited to the Bronco's game by our very dear friends Heather and Nate (or aunt Heather and uncle Tot if you will). Heather recently got a job with Coca Cola and was fortunate enough to get her boss' tickets for yesterdays game! It is the first time I have ever been in a suite and was the 'sweetest' thing I've ever experienced! Free nacho bar and beer? YES PLEASE! Matt and I had an awesome time (plus the Bronco's won!), while Ace spent the night with grandma. Grandma is going out of town Tuesday for a week, so it worked out best for all involved that we needed a sitter. Matt and I got to sleep in this morning which was perfect and greatly needed!
Today Cody and Meaghan decided that they would pack up and head home. Cody was a little worried about crutching up 3 flights of stairs, but thought it was time to be at his own place. While I liked the company while Matt was gone at work, it will be nice to get my house back and only have one baby to take care of! Today is filled with cleaning before the Cubs game and maybe some BBQ burgers later tonight.
Trewin life is still awesome! Now if we could only win the lottery...

Catching up with Ace

It seems to me that Ace changes every day right before my eyes! He is already 2 months old and I’m trying to get myself in the mindset that he won’t be a baby forever! I need to enjoy all I have with him right now, especially since I won’t be returning to work until mid September. I take so many pictures of him everyday and it seems like the little man he is in the morning grows so much throughout the day when I take a picture of his smile at night.

He is still sleeping in his bassinet next to our bed, and from what studies show, infants are less likely candidates for SIDS if they co-sleep until 6 months (plus I’m just not ready to let go and have him sleep in his room!). We’ve churched up his bassinet as much as we can to make it fun for him like his crib in his room is going to be. We bought him a kick piano, which he seems to love. I lay next to him and giggle with him when he figures out that sounds come out of the colorful thing if he moves his legs. It’s amazing and makes me heart melt! I’m so honored to be a part of this little man’s life as his mommy.

The Trewin’s are a busy family, here is what we’ve been up to since we last wrote.

Ace enjoyed his first Bronco game at the garage last Thursday. Sadly we lost, but my boy looked great in his gear thanks to Aunt Heather and Uncle Tot! He only has Bronco gear because daddy hasn’t gotten on top of getting him Chicago Bear’s stuff yet. We’ve been offered some baby Cowboy onsies, but no thanks Michelle, I’d burn them if they were here :) Ace and his cousin Ryde had quite the conversation in their seats as the game flew by. It was freaking adorable and makes me so happy that he will grow up so close to his cousin like I did with mine. We’re a lucky family!

Friday, Val and I took the boys to kickball. I used to play, but between blowing out my ACL and getting knocked up, I’ve become just a spectator. I miss it a lot, but am glad that we can still go hang out with our friends and watch. It was the first time a lot of my teammates got to meet Ace. We stayed for a few hours before heading home. The boys loved to lay in the park as mom and aunt Towel caught up with the outside world.

I’ve tried to get out without Ace so that it’s not too hard when I return to work... AHHHH who am I kidding? It’s going to be one of the hardest things I will have to go through!

Anyway, Saturday I joined a few of my friends downtown for the 10th Annual Crawl for Cancer. Our team consisted of 11 people and we ‘crawled’ to 5 bars for a few hours. It was nice to get out and have a little taste of what my life used to be like before a husband and baby. I’d never trade my life for the world, obviously, and I realized that the next morning. Boy, by being so honest in this blog, it’s making me sound like an alcoholic! EEK! Those of you who know me, know better :) Ace got to hang out with daddy all day while mommy was out. Matt said it was hard, but a lot of fun. It was nice for the boys to hang out because the past few weeks, we’ve had a lot of mommy and Ace time while dad works!

Sunday we had our first ‘Family Bed Day’ (Ace also happened to turn 2 months old)! Matt and I had decided that it had been too long since we just hung out at as a family for a whole day. It’s hard with the little brother patient still here to have time with just us. We dedicated last Sunday as the day. We snuggled up with each other in bed and watched movies, ordered Chinese food, napped, watch a replay of the Bear’s game, ordered pizza, laughed, smiled and kissed. Ace seemed to have enjoyed that as much as we did. No one mowed the lawn, did the dishes or folded laundry. It’s sometimes hard to get Matt to stop moving and just relax, but with his high blood pressure, it was easy to convince him it was for his health (minus the food choices)! It was a beautiful day.

All in all, this life is like a fantasy. I couldn’t ask for a more loving husband or a more beautiful baby boy.

Growing big!

Yesterday, we had Ace's 2 month appointment and let me tell you it was a production! As soon as we checked in we got an update of everything they needed to check on Ace for the day. I saw the word 'vaccination' and started to tear up. I cried when they took blood from him at his 2 week appointment and I knew it was going to be the same. I guess it's the feeling of not being able to comfort him right away when he cries, excuse me, screams. Shots were the last to come, so first he was stripped down, weighed (10 lbs. 6.5 oz.), measured, poked and stretched. He did such a great job for the doctor, but ended up peeing on dad before we got his diaper back on. Hilarious I tell ya! After the doctor left, the nurse was going to come back in and give him the shots. I was so grateful that Matt was with us during this appointment because I got myself so worked up that I had to leave the room, I actually left the clinic and waited in the car. Matt came out after getting baby Tylenol and said Ace was a trooper and he stopped crying as soon as the shots were over. I'm sure I'll not be such a Nancy and be present for the next round of shots. I'm going to have to be there at some point right? Yesterday just wasn't the day!
The weekend was pretty exciting, Saturday we went to watch Josh Blackburn (a friend of Matt's who plays at Baker Street sometimes) at the Battle of the Bands at Herman's Hideaway. It was pretty exciting, he went on last (12am) and totally rocked the house. It was amazing to see how many people were there just for him. He ended up winning against 3 other bands, like full-on bands! One guy with a few guitars and his voice beat out 3 other drums/guitar/bass bands! He ended up winning quite a package, he gets 3 songs on the next Rock Band game that comes out and air time on the radio. It was cool to see someone we know kind of make it big! We were lucky to have uncle Cody and aunt Meaghan here to watch the baby while Matt and I got out together.
Sunday we got our first family pictures taken! They came out beautiful! I'm so lucky to have a friend who is a photographer. We were able to take the pictures in the comfort of our own home for 2 hours! She did the poses we wanted and I couldn't be happier with what we're getting!  Ace peed on dad twice during those pictures as well. I couldn't help but laugh :) After pictures, we went to a wedding reception for some friends of ours. Ace got to spend time with grandma this time and Matt and I were able to really cut loose. Not drinking for 10 months and then getting silly like that was nothing I wish on anyone. I would have written this yesterday, but after Ace's baby appointment, I was in no shape to move from the couch. My dad always said 'If you wanna dance, you gotta pay the band'... I paid the band pretty well yesterday!

Busy weekend!

What a busy life we are having lately!
Friday, Ace was introduced to his cousins! Dorian helped feed him as the other kiddos looked on in amazement. It's funny to see youngsters around newborns. They laugh at every little movement and makes me appreciate all the little things Ace does, more than I already do. Friday was also the day we got our new roommates for the next few weeks. Aunt Towel came over with Ryde and Luke to visit uncle Cody. Of course Luke is 2 and doesn't want to just 'sit and visit', cause that's boring! So he went out back with the dogs, throwing the ball around and  drawing with sidewalk chalk. It had been about 45 minutes when all of a sudden, we hear Luke crying outside. Val rushed out there to see what happened and Luke was sitting on the ground saying 'ouch' and pointing to his head. Turns out he's got a gash on the back of his head that looks like it needs stitches! We asked for about 15 minutes what happened, but of course a 2 year old can't articulate all that well, so we have no idea. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a dog bite, mainly because the doctor said it didn't look like one and Luke doesn't seem to be scared of the dogs. He bounced back well and we got to watch baby Ryde while Val took Luke to the hospital. He ended up needing 3 staples and I feel horrible that it happened in my back yard! Ugh Friday!
Saturday, Matt, Ace and I went to the 'Chavez Family Picnic'. It was nice to see my family and introduce Ace to them. We ate some great food and caught up with people we haven't seen in a while. Ace pooped on his great aunt and we almost gave him a bath before leaving to head to Addison's birthday party! This was Ace's second party he's been invited to since he's been here... this kid is more popular than his parents are! It was also really nice to catch up with people from work I haven't seen since the middle of June. Listening to the stories about the first month of school definitely didn't make me miss work :) and it also got me thinking of how hard it's going to be to go back in another month and a half :( We won't think about that right now. Moving on...
After the party, we dropped Ace off with Grandma and went on a date! The first date we've been on since Ace was born. We went to Hapa Sushi (yet another first since I got pregnant!). The sushi was fantastic and we enjoyed each other's company. I enjoyed reconnecting with my husband again. We made a pact that we would get away with each other at least once a month, which is nice and extremely important for me and our little family. Later that night we went to Southlands to see if we wanted to watch a movie. We weren't too keen on the theater, so we walked around holding hands like high schoolers :) We watched people playing in the fountains and talked about the little things. After the water fountains shut off and people cleared out to go home, we stopped into a crepe shop and had some dessert. It was a perfect evening among adults.
Ace and I had been lucky enough to get Matt off work for 2 days in a row so Sunday we decided to go to the museum for the pirate exhibit. It was quite interesting to learn about 'real pirates', and to see everything that was pulled from a shipwreck that happened almost 300 years ago. We got a good look into what a pirates life was like and it almost made me want to be one (minus the no showers for months on end) ha ha! After the museum we walked to City Park to have a picnic. We laid on our blanket and enjoyed our first picnic as a family, just us. On Sundays in the summer, 'Jazz in the Park' is in full swing. By the time we got our blanket set up under the trees, the jazz music started. We enjoyed listening to music as we played with Ace and ate our tuna sandwiches, again, another perfect date. We picked up a movie on our way home and rounded out the weekend snuggled up watching Limitless (good movie, I suggest you see it).
